@silverwizard Actually, both the #Mastodon software and !GNUsocial software use the #OStatus protocol, as do #Diaspora, #Friendica, #Hubzilla and others, which we on !GNUsocial call the !Fediverse (apparently folks on Friendica have another name for that federated network)

No way to know whether I'll succeed in this, but I'm planning to submit at least one patch each to #GNU_Social and #Friendica in 2017. And to try to help create better docs for both projects.

@taknamay You could also host your own (#GNU_Social, #PostActive, #Mastodon, #Friendica, ...) on a #VPS and decide many of the rules for yourself in exchange for site admin ( #DentMaster ) duties. Just informing you of another option to consider.

@notnavigium @grmpyoldman With all #Twitter's VC funding, it would be financially crippling for a group of individuals or even a non-profit group to purchase T and continue operating it. Investing those funds in standing up public and community-based instances plus accelerating development of #GNU_Social, #Friendica, #Mastodon, #Diaspora would be a much better way to spend those funds.

@maiyannah @moonman @lnxw48 no need, it will "defeat" itself later on (by being sold on low price). As long as #federation remains compatible between all social-network software ( !gnusocial !diaspora #friendica and all the others) we can be a good alternative to those bloated #corporate islands. that is what makes the !fediverse good: #open-source and #federated. :-)

@bob i guess mire that most will go to #whatsapp or #facebook and maybe some will come to us. Most people are on such #corporate #social #network (it is no real network as !gnusocial, #diaspora and #friendica are) so people from #twitter will likely follow them.

If you want to post a nice photo or image, fine. But if you want to say something or you like to quote someone, please use text. I.e. a string of unicode characters forming words. Not images. Text usually needs much less bandwidth. Text can be read aloud by software for visually impaired people. Text can be magnified. Text can be searched. Text can be copied and pasted. Text can be quoted. Text works in non-graphical programs. Text rules. Thank you!
